SCRAM Beacon FAQs

General

  1. Why is a Beacon Zone created when I assign a beacon to a client?
The Beacon Zone is created so a visual representation of where the beacon should be located is displayed on the client’s map. Also, using the Beacon Zone, a schedule can be established for when the client can be inside or outside the beacon’s range.
  2. When the client moves out of the beacon’s range and the bracelet untethers, how long before the first untethered location point is obtained?
Untethering from the beacon takes a minimum of three minutes. Obtaining the first untethered location point can take a couple of minutes.
  3. Why doesn’t the bracelet untether from the beacon during a range test?
The bracelet will not untether unless the client moves a few feet beyond the beacon’s range during the range test.
  4. Why does the effective beacon range appear to fluctuate during a range test?
The beacon range will vary depending on the materials (wall, furniture, etc.) between the bracelet and beacon.
  5. I’m charging the beacon battery and the device is not functioning. What should I do?
A beacon being charged from a dead state may need a hard reset. To reset the device, remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert the battery. Resetting the battery may result in lost messages.
  6. Why is the supervision plan sometimes removed when I unassign the beacon?
Because it takes a few minutes for the bracelet to communicate directly with SCRAMNET GPS, the supervision plan can sometimes be disconnected. Should this occur, wait for two or three minutes then reestablish the client’s supervision plan.
  7. I changed the rate plan and the supervision plan was removed. What happened?
The supervision plan will be removed if you change the rate plan while the beacon is tethered.
  8. Can I designate a beacon address other than the address where the client resides?
Yes, any address can be entered for the beacon.

Check-in Call Interval (POTS)

  1. Why is nothing happening when I initiate a beacon range test?
Once you request a range test, the test will begin at the next check-in call, which may be up to 20 minutes.
Also, a network fluctuation may result in the range test request being missed.
  2. Why is the bracelet randomly tethering and untethering?
Short bursts of bracelet tethering and untethering can be observed during a network disruption.
  3. Why is the beacon displaying “Network Connecting” and/or “Network Connected?”
The beacon may display ‘Network Connecting”, ‘Network-Connected’ messages during the check-in call.
  4. Why is this beacon upgrade taking so long to complete?
An upgrade takes longer using a standard telephone line than it would using an Ethernet connection.
