SCRAM GPS Equipment Event Troubleshooting

The following equipment troubleshooting guide is designed to help you manage the most common events generated during a client’s GPS monitoring program.

EVENT INDICATOR RECOMMENDED ACTION
No Communication This indicates that the device is unable to communicate over the cellular network. The SCRAMNET GPS Dashboard will display a solid red dot in the Communications column for the client. Have the client plug the device in for 15 minutes. If the communication failure is not cleared, have the client stand outside for 15 minutes in an attempt to connect and communicate with the cellular network.
No Location Indicates that the satellites cannot acquire the client device’s current location information. The SCRAMNET GPS Dashboard will display a solid red dot in the client’s Location column. Have the client step outside for 15 minutes. During that timeframe, select the “Locate Now” icon within SCRAMNET GPS, which requests that the current location information be retrieved from the SCRAM GPS bracelet.
NA Battery Status This indicates that the device battery voltage has not been updated within the last 2 hours. The Battery column on the SCRAMNET GPS Dashboard will have NA inside the battery icon for the client. Check the Events detail pop-up window to determine if the client let the device’s battery completely deplete due to a lack of charging. If so, have the client charge the device.

If the device has been in a “No Communication” status for over 2 hours, the device battery icon will display as “NA.”  To clear a communication failure, and retrieve the current battery charge level, follow the recommended actions for the No Communication event.

Device Tamper Indicates that there was a potential backplate tamper. The SCRAMNET GPS Dashboard will display a blinking red dot in the Tampers column for the client. Visually inspect the device for signs of tampering around the backplate. If there are no signs of tampering, replace the backplate. If the backplate fails to secure completely or the device regenerates a device tamper alert shortly after replacing it, then replace the device and request an RMA from SCRAM Systems Customer Service.
Strap Tamper This indicates a potential strap tamper. The SCRAMNET GPS Dashboard will display a blinking red dot in the Tampers column for the client. Inspect the device for signs that the strap has been cut or compromised. For example, look for signs of damage from a heat source, cut marks, or prying marks. If there are no signs of tampering, replace the device and request an RMA from SCRAM Systems Customer Service.
Device Not Charging/Device Not Holding a Charge This indicates that the device is not charging correctly or is not holding a charge. The Event Details pop-up window or the Charging Event Report will show the client’s charging pattern and details. If a device is not charging, ensure that a green flashing light comes on when the device is placed on a charger. If no lights are coming on, replace the charger. If replacing the charger does not fix the issue, replace the bracelet and request an RMA from SCRAM Systems Customer Service.

If a device is not holding a charge, check the Event Details pop-up window or the client’s Charging Event report to ensure the offender is charging the device as instructed. If the client appears to be charging the device as instructed and the battery is depleting faster than usual, then replace the device and request an RMA from SCRAM Systems Customer Service.
