Perform Battery/Faceplate Maintenance

The battery in the SCRAM CAM Bracelet should be replaced if one of the following indications appears:

  • Replace Battery/Faceplate Alert – Will appear on the Workload page 90 days since the battery and faceplate were originally installed or previously replaced.
  • Battery Low Alert – Will appear on the Workload page when the battery voltage falls below the acceptable threshold.

The following items are needed to replace all of the bracelet components:

  • New faceplate
  • New battery
  • New tamper clips
  • Faceplate Removal Tool
  • T10 Screwdriver

Procedure

  1. Complete Bracelet Maintenance
    To complete the maintenance:

    1. Access the client’s Equipment page.
    2. Click the Maintenance link.
    3. Enter a date.
    4. Select the Battery, Faceplate, and Exhaust Cap Replaced check box.
    5. Click the Complete Bracelet Maintenance button.
      The bracelet re-initialization, which must be performed each time the bracelet is removed, will begin the next time that the bracelet communicates with SCRAMNET®.

  2. Remove Bracelet
    To remove the bracelet:

    1. Place the shear cutter on the center line where the two pieces of the tamper clip meet.
    2. Press down firmly with one point of the shear cutter until the point breaks through the plastic.
    3. Press down firmly with the other point of the shear cutter until that point breaks through the plastic.
    4. Squeeze the shear-cutter handles until the plastic center breaks and the two pieces separate from the buckle cover.
    5. Using the T10 screwdriver, loosen the two retaining screws.
    6. Pull the strap back through the buckle, removing the bracelet from the client’s ankle.

  3. Remove Old Faceplate
    To remove the faceplate:

    1. Insert the Faceplate Removal Tool into the slots on the right side of the bracelet.
    2. Press the tool in until the faceplate disengages.
    3. Holding the faceplate removal tool as shown below, push in the index finger until the faceplate pops up.
      Note: Discard the faceplate as it is a “single-use-only” component.

  4. Remove Old Battery
    To remove the battery:

    1. Place your finger tip on the edge of the negative (flat) side of the battery.
    2. Pull up on the battery, removing it from the bracelet.
    Important! Important: Never reuse a SCRAM CAM battery. Once removed, dispose of it or recycle it in accordance with local regulations and replace it with a new battery.

  5. Open a new Battery and Faceplate Kit
    The SCRAM CAM/HA CH Battery and Faceplate Kit (P/N 03628) includes one faceplate, one battery, and a set of two tamper clips.

    1. Remove the battery from the kit.
      Note that the battery comes wrapped in plastic to help prevent corrosion and accidental discharge during shipping and storage.
    2. Remove the plastic wrapper from the battery.
  6. Install New Battery
    To install the new battery:

    1. Insert the battery into the battery compartment positive (+) side downward.
      A small, green light on the bracelet will turn on for 5 seconds.

  7. Install New Faceplate
    To install the new faceplate:

    1. Lay the faceplate over the battery compartment.
    2. Starting in the upper right corner, press down firmly until you hear/feel a click.
    3. Moving clockwise on the faceplate, press down firmly in each of the remaining corners. Ensure you hear/feel a click in each corner.
    4. It may be necessary to remove the faceplate and reinstall if you do not hear or feel a click in each corner of the faceplate.

    Warning Warning: Moisture may seep through the faceplate seals and corrode internal components if the faceplate is not thoroughly attached – you must hear/feel four distinct clicks!
  8. Attach Bracelet to Client
    To attach the bracelet:

    1. Open the bracelet.
    2. Place the bracelet no more than an index finger above the right or left ankle with the SERIAL NUMBER FACING UP.
    3. Feed the strap through the buckle and completely tighten.
      The bracelet should be able to be rotated slightly, but not past the shin bone.
      Important Note – To properly align the bracelet strap, ensure that the tooth alignment tab is positioned between two teeth when the buckle is tightened. An “Open Strap Detected” event will be generated if the strap is not properly aligned.

    4. Tighten the retaining screws until the two sides of the buckle are flush.

  9. Open the Direct Connect application
  10. Connect Direct Connect Device with Your Computer
    To connect the Direct Connect device:

    1. Plug the small (mini-B type) USB connector into the Direct Connect device.
    2. Plug the large (A type) USB connector into a USB port on your computer.
      The red and blue lights on the Direct Connect device blink for approximately 5 seconds then both remain on.

  11. Attach Direct Connect Device to Bracelet
    To attach the Direct Connect device:

    1. Align the Direct Connect device with the top of the bracelet.
    2. Slide the Direct Connect device down over the bracelet.

  12. Wake Up Bracelet
    To wake up the bracelet:

    1. Momentarily place the magnet on the Direct Connect device where the word “magnet” appears.

      On the Direct Connect device, the red light turns off while the blue light remains on.
      At this time:

      1. The bracelet initialization process begins.
      2. The initial alcohol reading is uploaded to SCRAMNET.

      When complete:

      • The blue light on the Direct Connect device turns off for approximately 10 seconds then both lights turn back on.
      • Bracelet status in Direct Connect Application: Communication Complete
        Note: After 1 minute, the status changes to: Waiting for Bracelet
    2. Remove the Direct Connect device from the bracelet.
  13. Verify Re-initialization Started
    To verify that the re-initialization has started:

    1. In SCRAMNET, access the client’s Reports page.
    2. Click the Communication sub-tab.
    3. Verify by looking at the top Date/Time link that the base station has recently communicated with SCRAMNET.
    4. Open the communication and verify that an “Initial Baseline Reading Taken” message appears.
    5. If the message does NOT appear, contact AMS Customer Services.
  14. Install Tamper Clip
    To install the tamper clip:

    1. Insert both tamper clip parts into the buckle and squeeze together, ensuring that the clips snap into place.
