For Calibration Gas Canister
The provided recycling tool should only be used with:
- CalGaz 2AL canister (PN 23348)
- InterMountain Gas 2AL canister (PN 10638)
Before Proceeding
 |
- Read all instructions.
- Wear the proper safety equipment (eye protection).
- Be in a well-ventilated workspace, outdoors, or under a properly rated lab hood.
- Always ensure the canister is empty prior to using the recycling tool.
- Never use this recycling tool on other canisters that contain flammable gas.
- Always proceed slowly and with caution when working with gas canisters.
|
If at any time during the process you are unsure how to complete each step safely, contact your supervisor or someone with knowledge of the procedure before proceeding.
Prepare the Gas Canister and Recycling Tool
- Ensure the gas canister is EMPTY before proceeding. Use a regulator attached to a full, used, or empty canister to vent any remaining contents prior to completing the recycling process.
- Once the canister is empty, remove the regulator.
- Prepare the recycling tool for use. Turn the textured part of the tool counterclockwise until it stops. The centerpunch should be retracted completely into the body of the recycling tool.

Instructions
- Holding the canister with the valve pointing away from your face, slowly screw the recycling tool into the canister’s valve clockwise using the tool’s knurled body.
 |
- Do not use wrenches or pliers to attach the tool to a canister. Hand-tighten only.
- Do not use the tool if it fails to engage properly with the canister threads. Injury can occur.
|
- Turn the handle on the recycling tool clockwise. While turning, the resistance will increase. Once the punch penetrates the valve retainer or pushes the valve stem out, the resistance will lessen. During this process, some gas may vent out from the recycling tool. The tool is designed with gas relief ports to vent any residual gas. Before moving forward, allow gas pressure to dissipate. You may also hear a rattle at the bottom of the canister.
 |
If you feel unusual resistance while turning the handle, stop immediately and inspect the canister valve for damage. |
- Retract and remove the tool by turning the handle counterclockwise several turns first, and then turning the knurled body with your fingers until it unthreads and is free from the canister valve. Proper use of the tool will leave a visible hole in the canister’s valve area.
 |
Do not use the recycling tool’s handle to remove the recycling tool from the valve. This may stress or damage the center punch. |
Empty canisters may be collected by local metal recycling companies or simply discarded.
